Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has emerged as the inaugural winner of the Enactus Nigeria Early Stage Competition 2026, earning the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Enactus World Cup in Brazil this September.
The historic victory took place at the Enactus Nigeria National Competition 2026, themed "Reimagining Transformation." The Early Stage Competition was introduced for the first time this year, creating a new platform for early-stage innovations to demonstrate their potential.
FUTO's victory is particularly significant because the university's last Enactus national victory was in 2012. Fourteen years later, a new generation has returned FUTO to the national spotlight.
Now, FUTO will take its journey from Owerri to Brazil, joining Nigeria's Advanced Stage representative, Ahmadu Bello University, at the Enactus World Cup.
This is more than a competition victory. It is a powerful demonstration of the creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and transformative potential of Nigerian university students.
Congratulations to FUTO, the first-ever Enactus Nigeria Early Stage Champions. 🇳🇬🇧🇷
2012 → 2026. A new generation. A new chapter.
FUTO's ALTAR Adds Another Chapter
FUTO's achievements did not end with the Early Stage Competition. At the Julius Berger Innovation Challenge, FUTO emerged as the first-place winner with ALTAR, its robotic innovation. The achievement demonstrated the technological creativity and engineering capability within the team. It also showed what can happen when students are encouraged to move beyond theoretical knowledge and apply engineering, technology and entrepreneurship to practical problems.
Engineering becomes innovation. Innovation becomes a solution. A university project becomes something people can experience and potentially use. That is transformation being reimagined.
With both the Early Stage crown and the Julius Berger Innovation Challenge trophy, FUTO has cemented its place as a powerhouse of student-led innovation in Nigeria.
